Survival architecture is a mandatory rule to save a business from total failure. I have faced a lot of upscaling and downscaling throughout the pre and post covid era. Post covid era is also not a safe heaven for the businesses then the downscaling to one or just one hand server is a survival rule for cost optimization.

Every businesses' dream is to sell higher, increase demand and make profit. This is an american dream to every business on earth. The world is, however, cruel enough to take these profits and demands for any reasons. Example includes natural disaster, infrastructure collapse and national or international and geopolitics.
The business have to ride the tides described in former paragraph. We have to bear with it. I also tried to upscale with the best before covid era and it was not work as expected. It mostly failed and my business tends to become a full stop. At that time, I truly believe in downscaling to survival architecture.
What to do in survival architecture
The first one is planning. You need to plan ultimate power saving mode to scale down your infrastructure. Every business may have sunny days but we can also expect cats and dogs. Then, the apps or the infrastructure must run in a single cheap computer and expend up to numerous machines in real time. You can do in multiple services or just monolith. It is up to your preference.
Cost optimization is a necessary thing to make sure your business runs smooth in hard times. You need to plan for the best effective way of cost optimization plan on time by time. It should be prepared semi-annually and review monthly at its best.
Node count is also necessary. For normal business, cloud services like amazon or other vendors can solve that for your downscale system but big data transfers such as learning management platform or video streaming businesses, you must decide which service is mandatory to run the business smoothly.
Customer satisfaction must be fulfilled rather than cutting the cost to save your business. Then, the downscale system must not have any impact on existing consumers. They must not notice anything that we are saving or shrinking our business or infrastructure.
The consumers, even the free access ones, need attention from us. We must have minimal viable product to meet customer needs. For example, if you are supplying a cable TV or learning management system. All the videos must be accessible. You can limit the permission but all the visible documents are accessible by nature. Shrink down the necessary measure to minimum and make everything works.
